1. Our commitment
We design, build and maintain theintext.com with accessibility in mind from the start. We test with keyboard-only navigation and screen-reader software and address issues we find as part of our regular development cycle.
2. Standards
Our target conformance level is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We aim to meet or exceed these guidelines across all public pages.
3. Accessibility features
- Semantic HTML landmarks and heading hierarchy on every page.
- Full keyboard navigation with a visible focus ring.
- Skip-to-content link at the top of every page (where applicable).
- Text contrast ratios that meet WCAG AA against both light and dark backgrounds.
- Descriptive alternative text on editorial imagery.
- Responsive layouts that reflow to 320 CSS pixels without loss of content.
- Respect for the user's operating-system preference for reduced motion.
4. Known limitations
Some third-party embeds (social-media posts, video players and advertising creatives) are controlled by external providers and may not fully meet our accessibility standards. Where possible we provide alternative descriptions or captions.
We are also progressively improving alt text on older archival imagery.
5. Assistive technology
The Site is tested against recent versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on desktop and mobile, together with common screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver). If you encounter difficulty with a particular assistive-technology combination, please let us know.
6. Feedback
If you experience an accessibility barrier on theintext.com, please tell us. Send an email to press@theIntext.com with the URL of the page, a description of the problem, and the assistive technology (if any) you were using. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within five business days.
7. Formal complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate the matter to the editorial desk in writing using the contact details below. We will review the complaint and reply in writing.
