About The Intext

1. Our mission

Our mission is straightforward: to produce accurate, fair and independent journalism that helps readers understand the world and the country they live in. We believe an informed public is the foundation of a functioning society, and that journalism should serve that public interest above all else.

2. What we cover

The Intext covers Bangladesh and the wider region alongside global news, business, science, technology, culture and sport. Our newsroom prioritises stories that are consequential, well-sourced and under-reported.

3. Editorial standards

Every story we publish is expected to meet the same standards, whether it is a 200-word news brief or a long-form investigation:

Accuracy verified against primary sources wherever possible.
Fairness — the subjects of a story are given a genuine opportunity to respond.
Clear separation of news, analysis and opinion.
Transparent attribution — readers should always know where information comes from.
Independent editorial judgement — no story is written to please an advertiser.

4. Sourcing & verification

We prefer on-the-record sources. When we agree to grant a source anonymity, we do so only when the information is important, cannot reasonably be obtained on the record, and the source has direct knowledge. Anonymous sourcing is explained in the story where possible.

Documents, data and imagery are verified before publication. When a claim cannot be independently confirmed, we say so.

5. Use of AI

We may use artificial-intelligence tools to assist with research, transcription, translation, code and workflow. AI tools do not write our journalism, and every published word is written or edited by a human journalist accountable for it. Any AI-generated imagery is clearly labelled as such.

6. Images & multimedia

Photographs are used to inform, not to mislead. We do not alter the content of news photographs beyond standard adjustments (crop, colour, exposure). Illustrations and composites are labelled as illustrations.

7. Corrections policy

When we make a factual error, we correct it promptly, transparently and on the same page where the error appeared. A correction note explains what was wrong and when it was fixed. For significant errors, we may also publish a stand-alone correction.

8. Ethics & independence

No pay-for-coverage. Editorial coverage cannot be purchased. Sponsored content is clearly labelled and produced separately from the newsroom.
Conflicts of interest. Journalists disclose personal and financial interests that could reasonably appear to affect their reporting, and recuse themselves where necessary.
Gifts and hospitality. Staff decline gifts and hospitality that could compromise, or appear to compromise, editorial independence.
Political activity. Journalists do not endorse candidates or participate in partisan political activity in a way that undermines the newsroom's independence.

9. Ownership & funding

The Intext is an independent digital publication. We are funded principally by advertising and reader support. Advertisers do not receive advance notice of, and have no influence over, editorial content. See our advertising disclosure for details on how advertising works on the Site.

We aim to reflect the full range of the communities we cover — in the stories we choose, the sources we quote and the people we hire. We treat inclusion as a matter of accuracy as well as fairness.
